Second Grade Reading

We LOVE reading in second grade.  Our classroom has a library full of books at various reading levels and genres for the students to peruse and enjoy.  We encourage reading for pleasure, reading to learn, and reading to improve.  During our reading time each day, students are pulled into small reading groups to work on specific comprehension, fluency or accuracy tasks.  These groups are fluid and often change as students progress on to different needs or reading levels.

Raz-Kids

Have your kids been talking about Raz-Kids?  It's a fun website that we've been enjoying in the computer lab once a week.  The kids click on their names, choose a book, and have it read aloud or read it to themselves.  Afterwards, they can take a comprehension quiz to see how much they're taking in when reading.  Students may also record themselves reading for us to listen to at a later time.  It's a fun interactive way to learn how to use computers while also practicing our reading skills.  The user ID is lshonk and password is 246000.

National Geographic Explorer For Kids is an online version of the award-wining magazine.
